A Thinker's Reflections Blog #7: Experience Takes Commitment

As a student who is currently undergoing a second placement opportunity (as of writing this blog entry), I am very interested in maintaining relevance to my resume. Indeed, for any student seeking a plausible career path, a resume that has unique elements within it speaks volumes.

One of the key things an employer will notice is trends in consistency. These trends are spotted for both positive and negative scenarios. For positive scenarios, an employer might like to see a person's background geared towards a specific purpose (e.g. media buying), while having other supportive traits. On the other hand, a negative scenario could be going from one employer to the next all too quickly, with no significant time or involvement vested with a particular workplace (a cliche example, I know).

My main point in this is that I am striving to create a consistent image for employers, centered on me being a dedicated, hard worker focused on research and analytical tasks (while also having varying side skills).

The bottom line is that by showing consistency within your career navigation and resume, you are not just showing that you know what you want to obtain; you are proving you can commit to goals. This can reveal a lot about your character to a potential employer, and may make them choose you over another candidate. After all, if you can focus on something intently without giving up, then naturally that should translate over quite well for the business's performance goals right?
