A Thinker's Reflections Blog #9: PowerPoint-Don't Underestimate It

I can truly say that I have underestimated the "power" of PowerPoint (this pun is intended). I have conducted a couple of boardroom presentations within my placement experience, and I must admit that without the beloved PowerPoint to support me, they would not have went so smoothly.

If there is something to remind business students of, it is never view your in-class presentations as fictional scenarios. Treat them as if you were actually presenting in front of a client and your job depends on it. The soft skills you pick up along the course of your education will serve you well in so many situations.

The number one takeaway of my experience with PowerPoint in the workplace is that you are organizing for others and not just yourself. While this might seem like common sense to some, it really hit me that such basic skills developed towards the use of PowerPoint in classes can really serve to better your performance, and image, if you decide to truly be serious about it.

Ultimately, what I am trying to express from my learning experiences, is to make sure you know the expectations of your workplace settings. Sometimes, answers can be found by you asking because the employer cannot be aware of everything that you should know. Again, it all comes down to being proactive.
